How To: The Guide to Using Your Skincare Products

Having a proper skin care routine is vital to maintaining healthy and glowing skin.

Important products to consider in a regimen should include:

  • Cleanser

  • Toner

  • Mask

  • Moisturizer

  • SPF!

Why are these important?

Cleanser is significant in skincare because it helps to remove dirt, oil, and impurities from the skin, preventing breakouts and promoting a clear complexion. To use it, wet your face with water, apply a small amount of cleanser to your hands, lather it up, and gently massage it onto your face. Rinse thoroughly with water and pat dry with a clean towel. For those with an oily skin type, use morning and evening. If you have a dry skin type, skip this step in the morning and double cleanse in the evening.

After cleaning, toner will help to balance the pH level of your skin, remove any remaining impurities, and prep the skin for better absorption of moisturizers and serums. To use toner, apply a small amount onto a cotton pad and gently pat onto your face, or spray in. "+" and "x" formation to ensure even coverage across the face after cleansing. For those with a dry skin type, toner can be used as a part of your morning routine in replacement of cleanser to ensure the skin is not being stripped of the healthy oil being produced.

Using a face mask can do wonders for the skin, and it comes with many benefits. Wether you are looking to hydrate, nourish, draw impurities out of the pores, calm/soothe the skin, or brighten your complexion, incorporating a mask can target a variety of skin conditions at the same time. When looking at face masks, there are two categories: nonsetting and setting. To properly use a non-setting mask, apply the mask evenly on your face, avoiding the eye and mouth areas and leave the mask on for the recommended amount of time (usually 10-15 minutes). Depending on the type ingredients of the masks, it may fully absorb into the skin. If there is remaining product, rinse off the mask with warm water and pat your face dry with a clean towel.

For moisturizer, simply apply a small amount of the product to your face and neck. This is important because it helps nourish your skin, keeping it healthy and preventing dryness and flakiness. Additionally, moisturizer can help to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and protect your skin from environmental damage.

SPF (Sun Protection Factor) is important in a skin care routine because it helps protect the skin from

harmful UV rays that can cause sunburn, premature aging, and even skin cancer. Using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 can help protect your skin from these damaging effects. While this seems like a small step, it is key to keeping our skin healthy and happy.
